Fiscal sponsorship is a formal arrangement between the VSJF, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and a project or organization that lacks exempt status. This is an alternative to starting your own nonprofit and allows you to seek grants and solicit tax-deductible donations under the VSJF’s exempt status.
Since most grantmakers give to organizations, not individuals, fiscal sponsorship may help you qualify for more funding opportunities. Thus, you may be able to fund and start your project sooner. Meanwhile, you can work on getting your own nonprofit status if that is your ultimate goal.
What we offer:
Projects or organizations maintain their own identity and control over their own initiatives. But as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the VSJF is legally and financially responsible for every project we fiscally sponsor.
Grants Management Services – includes administration all grant agreements and financial reporting, and results in stronger relationships with funders.
Our staff is also highly experienced in all aspects of foundation and government grant management. We provide full administration for this complex and time-consuming task, including monitoring for compliance.
VSJF’s fiscal sponsorship services encompass:
- Federal and state tax exemption for sales tax purposes
- Contributions are tax-deductible for donors
- Grants from private foundations do not impose expenditure responsibility or other onerous reporting obligations on the foundation
