Support the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund

When we think about a thriving economy in Vermont, we envision vibrant communities where people are employed in meaningful, good paying jobs; healthy farms and forests that preserve our working landscape; and innovative new technologies being nurtured into next-generation businesses.

From a fourth generation dairy farm in Weybridge to a renewable energy demonstration project in Montgomery, we are engaging deeply with the people and businesses who are working toward that vision every day. Businesses like WheelPad, a manufacturing company making accessible housing for people recovering from illness or injury; Food Connects, an organization helping to bring the vision of a regional food system into reality; and Sawyer Made, a second-generation fine woodworking business keeping craft and tradition alive in Vermont. And we’ve been doing that for more than 25 years.

From our vantage point between business and government, we are in a unique position to understand the shared values that drive our economy forward and ask, “What’s missing?”

  • Where else can we provide system-level support that will create jobs and improve well-being?
  • What more can we do to advance the programs that are truly helping Vermonters?
  • What are the next ideas or industries that will be part of Vermont’s future economy?

Hear from Vermonters We’ve Helped

Annie Harlow, Grocer Project consultant, and the Farm to Plate team are invaluable assets to producers and growers in Vermont-my business has benefited so much from their work and I feel so lucky we have them on our team.”

Jess MesserSavoure

I attended the Producer, Distributor, Buyer Forum organized by the Network’s Independent Grocers Program. The candid conversation and insider knowledge about distribution was invaluable. In addition, the contacts both with distributors and information sharing with other producers was ideal one-stop networking. I’m glad that I invested the time in participating, and I know that other participants felt the same way.”

You have to know, when you hold a skein of yarn, what does it actually cost to make that skein? The materials, the labor, the energy to run the mill. Knowing that gave us the confidence to get to a wholesale price that we could live with, and that local yarn shops could live with. We were able to feel good about that because of the work we did with our business coach.”

We’re super thankful. Harvard Business School could not compete with the ‘education’ we received through this business coaching program. Don’t be afraid to let your priorities change and don’t wait to ask for help from someone who has been there before.”

The Discovery Fund

That’s why we started the VSJF Discovery Fund, an unrestricted fund that creates time and space for the next, new systems-level ideas to emerge. Grant funded work–which is our main source of funding as a nonprofit–is highly restricted and requires certainty. But the one constant is change and in these dynamic times, it’s moving faster than ever.
