Vermont Biofuels Initiative
Grantee Profiles
VSJF provides farmers, entrepreneurs, and educators with opportunities to diversify and add value to their operations, control fuel and feed costs by producing biodiesel and protein meal, develop second generation feedstocks and distribution capacity, and train Vermont's green workforce.
Vermont Grass Energy Partnership
VSJF funds and conducts applied research in partnership with the University of Vermont Plant & Soil Science Department and the Biomass Energy Resource Center. This research will lead to perennial grass biomass production and management recommendations, with the goal of expanding biomass production for energy in Vermont over the coming decade.
Homegrown Feed, Food & Fuel Project
This project provides important market data & analysis that will be of use to farmers, policy makers & entrepreneurs who are interested in further exploring the opportunities for various oilseed products.
Vermont Biodiesel Project
This two year venture (2004-2006), funded by the U.S. Department of Energy State Energy Program and VSJF, set out to develop a market for biodiesel and Bioheat ® in the state through a set of pilot programs and market building activities.
Biomass-to-Biofuels Resources
Biofuels are biologically-based fuels such as biodiesel, ethanol, and methane that can be used to run vehicles, heat buildings, or generate electricity. More broadly, biofuels also include biomass fuels such as wood chips, wood pellets, and a variety of fast growing trees, shrubs, and grasses such as switchgrass and bluestem.
