VT Wood Products Resource Manual
The Vermont Wood Products Resource Manual provides individual and institutional consumers with the information they need to find and purchase wood products grown and manufactured in Vermont.
The Need: In the late 1990s, institutional purchasers repeatedly asked for more information about Vermont wood product companies. Who could provide quality, affordable products? Could they work at the institutional scale? Could they find FSC wood at affordable prices? Were there any printed resources that architects could reference when designing a structure? The VSJF created the Cornerstone Project and developed partnerships with a number of organizations and institutions in order to help broker the supply of and demand for sustainable wood products.
The Opportunity: The Vermont Wood Products Resource Manual provides information on Vermont manufacturers of architectural millwork, furniture, plywood, lumber and doors/windows. Each listing provides details on craftsmanship, finish, design, species used, turn-around time, and other features of each manufacturer.
Since many buyers are becoming interested in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) Green Building Rating
System®, companies that use FSC
(Forest Stewardship Council)-certified wood in
their products have been identified. While some companies may not indicate that
they use FSC wood currently, they may be willing to do so upon request.
