Current Grants: Sustainable Agriculture
CURRENT ACTIVITIES: VSJF’s sustainable agriculture activities currently consist of Peer to Peer business
assistance to Vermont Smoke and Cure (Barre) and Vermont Refrigerated Storage (Shoreham). Sessions with Vermont Compost Company (Montpelier) were recently completed.
VSJF’s biodiesel grants are aimed at increasing the viability of farms, and require the use of non-GMO seeds.
In February, 2008, VSJF granted $5,000 to the Composting Association of Vermont to convene a regulatory review stakeholder process, and develop recommendations for citing composting facilities in Vermont. This stakeholder led initiative, dubbed Legal Compost, will begin to address the gap between Vermont’s current regulations for handling compostable materials and the needs of the State’s communities and environment.
VSJF anticipates making two $5,000 sustainable agriculture grants in FY09. Please contact us if you have a project idea.
