We support sustainable job creation in Vermont though our economic development approaches (programs and services), which can include navigating access to capital.
Financial Services
When funding permits, we provide small, strategic grants in the sectors we serve (agriculture and food system, forest product, waste management, renewable energy, and environmental technology). When capacity exists, we offer administrative support to early stage nonprofit organizations who do not yet have their own 501(c)3 nonprofit status and other special projects that are aligned with our mission. We also laid the groundwork for the Flexible Capital Fund, LC3, a low profit, limited liability investment company which provides creative growth financing in working landscape and clean technology sectors.

Administrative Support
The Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund sometimes provides administrative financial services to nonprofit organizations and projects that are aligned with our mission or programs. We currently provide administrative support to the Energy Action Network and projects taking place within the Farm to Plate Network including Slow Money Vermont.

The Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund sometimes provides fiscal sponsorship to early stage nonprofit organizations that are aligned with our mission and do not yet have their own 501(c)3 nonprofit status. We currently provide fiscal sponsorship to the Hunger Mountain Cooperative Community Fund.

Grants
We are not conducting any grant making at this time.
The Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund provided grants to 52 individual Vermont bioenergy projects between 2005 and 2015 with US Department of Energy congressional appropriations, secured by U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, to develop a small-scale bioenergy industry in Vermont.

From 1998 through 2007, we provided grant making to help forest product businesses become FSC certified.
Between 1999 and 2003 we provided strategic planning grants to food and forest trade associations and other innovative projects. Learn more about VSJF’s background and history.

The Flexible Capital Fund, L3C
The Flexible Capital Fund, L3C (Flex Fund) is a low profit, limited liability company launched in 2011. Managed by the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, the Flex Fund is supported by 38 investor members committed to helping small and innovative growth-stage companies in working landscape and clean technology sectors stay and grow in Vermont.
